Crocosmia 'Lucifer'

Crocosmia 'Lucifer' blooms in late summer with brilliant, hummingbird-attracting scarlet-red flowers on arching stems. 

I've found in my colder climate that if you want to ensure that every corm grows to start them in pots and baby them until they establish decent growth. Crocosmia may not bloom the first season, especially in colder zones, but it is perennial and once established it will reward you with spectacular blooms. Cover with mulch to insulate in winter in zones 5-6. Perennial in zones 5-9.
