The bloom: Andes Fire has deep, velvety red flowers with a dark crimson throat, darker and more dramatic than a classic holiday red. Expect 2 or more stems on 18–24" stalks, each with 4–6 large blooms.

Christmas timing: Peruvian bulbs are Southern Hemisphere grown, so they bloom in time for the holidays, unlike most Dutch bulbs sold in stores. Flowers typically open 5–7 weeks after planting. Plant by mid-November for Christmas blooms.

Easy to plant: Hydrate the soil block, set the bulb in the pot, top with moss and decorations, and water lightly. Then watch it grow.
